Govt insures no sugar price increase during Ramadan

Minister of Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain has said that sugar prices will not be allowed to rise under Ramadan, according to Radio Pakistan.

Chairman of a meeting to review sugar prices in Islamabad on Friday, he said consumers’ exemption under Ramadan is responsible for the government.

Hussain said Sugar Millers has been given a week’s time to hear about sugar prices and the final prices for the item will be announced on Thursday.

The minister said farmers should be included in the profits and the sugar mills should play their role in tackling production and economic problems for agricultural men.

Earlier this week, Utility Stores Corporation (USC) raised the price of sugar with RS5 per day. Kg. According to sources, the price of sugar in supply stores is increased from RS140 to RS145 per year. Kg.

The decision to increase the price was made due to rising prices in the open market. However, despite this increase, sugar in supply stores remains cheaper than in the open market.
