Govt orders ministries to return unused funds by April 30

The federal government has ordered all ministries and departments to return any unused funds from the current financial year before April 30, 2025.

According to sources in the Ministry of Finance, clear instructions have been issued to all main accountants (PAOs) across ministries and departments, on the 30th of April deadline to ensure the recovery of expected excess funds from the financial year 2024-25.

Officials stated that the move follows guidelines issued by the public accounting committee. The Ministry of Finance emphasized that these funds timely returns are essential not only to end the revised estimates for the current financial year, but also to strengthen the projections of the upcoming federal budget.

The returned funds are expected to include savings from civilian government expenditure, subsidies and development of development.

According to the Ministry’s figures, the total development budget for the current financial year was set to RS1,100 billion. However, only RS450 billion has been used. The remaining unused funds will be redistributed to sectors that require immediate financial support.

The Ministry of Finance has repeated its commitment to ensuring cautious fiscal management and efficient distribution of resources when it gather for the new financial year.
