Islamabad:
Federal Minister of Railways Hanif Abbasi on Sunday confirmed the government’s obligation to transform Pakistan Railways into a modern, reliable and passenger -friendly mode of transport.
“There is effort to make the railway a reliable and preferred form of travel,” he said, visiting an unannounced visit to Margalla Railway Station.
The Minister assessed the overall facilities and worked directly with passengers and staff.
During his visit, Abbasi conducted a detailed inspection of cleanliness schemes across the station’s premises and expressed satisfaction over staff efforts.
He instructed the station authorities to ensure that high standards of hygiene and sanitation are consistently maintained.
Personally, he inspected each trainer on the train, which was stationed on the platform, evaluation of on board and facilities delivered to passengers.
He also took time to interact with travelers and listen attentively to their complaints and suggestions regarding rail services.
The Minister gave discussions with rail staff about the quality of service and various operational challenges.
He also reviewed progress with ongoing development projects aimed at upgrading Margalla Station Infrastructure.
The minister announced plans to introduce recreational facilities at Margalla Station and said that specially designed public restaurants are also under consideration as part of the station’s future development.
Last month, it was reported that Pakistan Railways has been subjected to serious problems in ensuring that smooth train operations across the country, as a large part of its rolling stock has been overturned, with 58 percent of the entire locomotive fleet that ends its functional life.
