Islamabad:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday emphasized that after the recent reduction of approx. RS7.5 per Unit in electricity -stars Now the government was focused on ensuring long -term affordable price and reliability in power production.
The Prime Minister was chairman of a high-level meeting to review the integrated generational capacity expansion plan (IGCEP) 2024-2034, which confirmed the government’s obligation to reduce electricity prices and implement sustainable reforms in the energy sector, a Prime Minister’s office said in the office.
“After delivering relief to the population with a significant d reduction in customs, we are now implementing an effective strategy for sustainable energy sector reforms,” said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The Prime Minister was aimed at the timely end of strategic projects such as the Diamer-Bhasha Dam and emphasized the need for a robust system to utilize the country’s water and power resources.
“Any delay in energy projects is unacceptable,” he said, adding, “We are moving towards establishing a free electricity market in the country very soon, which will promote competition and lead to further reduction in power tariffer.”
The prime minister was informed that Igcep had been thoroughly reassessed on his instructions and revealed spaces for improvement. The revised plan, prepared through dedicated efforts by the Ministry of Energy, adapts better with grounded realities and future demands.
The main highlights of the briefing included competitive bids will now be used for upcoming power production projects over the next ten years, expensive power projects amounting to 7.967MW are removed from the plan, revised project time lines and the exclusion of expensive ventures, estimated savings of $ 17 billion (RS4,743 billion domestic resources and alternative energy sources.
