- Gaming handheld prototype spotted with AMD Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 inside
- Strix Halo offers triple performance of current handheld APU solutions
- GPD could combine Console-Class graphics with AI treatment at work station level
GPD has named itself by building compact game consoles and ultra-laptop laptops, which often blurs the lines between console and PC.
Its devices, like the Win series and the pocket line, have found benefit of enthusiasts looking for performance in tight form factors, and by 2024 GPD expanded its lineup with a double screen OLED -Learable computer aimed at creators -we even said that the GPD duo “Possibly is the best mobile workstation ever.”
Now, a newly leaked image that is stained by Videocardz Suggest that GPD could prepare something far more ambitious – a game handheld driven by AMD’s advanced Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APU.

Concerns of power efficiency
The prototype “GPD STX HALO HANDHELD”, shared by X by HXL (see above), shows a 3DMARK TIMPY score of 10,393, with a graphics result of 10,366 and a CPU score of 10,552. It is a steep leap from the current Strix-point-based handheld handheld.
The chip inside, which is a Ryzen AI Max+ 395 with Radeon 8060S graphics, packs 16 Zen 5 CPU kernels and 40 RDNA 3.5 Calculated units.
It is AMD’s most powerful integrated GPU to date, offering more than twice the GPU hardware found in chips like Ryzen 7 8840u or 8945HS.
Based on the benchmark figures in HXL’s image, GPD’s prototype could surpass the current generation of handhelds by a wide margin.
However, stream efficiency is still a problem. As Videocardz notes, Strix Halo has a standard TDP of 120W, which would usually be too much for a handheld. However, architecture can scale down to 20-25W, and early testing indicates that it still retains a benefit edge over Strix Point, even when given.
It is unclear whether this is close to being an end product or just an internal test device as GPD has not yet made any official messages.
That said, the prototype points to a possible future where handheld consoles offer desktop class power, and we are definitely here for it.
