- The company Restored Services, Launched Monitoring and offers free identity protection for the victims
Motility Software Solutions, a company that provides car dealer Management Software (DMS), recently suffered a ransomware attack where hundreds of thousands of customers lost their sensitive data.
The company confirmed the news in an archiving in the Maine Attorney General Office, where he noted that the attack took place on August 11, 2025 and was discovered about a week later, August 19.
Motility saw penetration after experiencing “unusual activity” in certain servers. This unusual activity was found to be an encryption that prevented the company from accessing parts of its IT infrastructure.
Thousands of victims
“Although malware primarily limited our access to internal data, forensic evidence suggests that the actor may have removed limited files that contain customers’ personal data before encryption,” the message reads.
Motility Software Solutions specializes in the software for the vehicle industry, including RVS, trailers, buses and marine vehicles. It offers a web -based platform that integrates CRM, accounting, fixtures, service planning and reporting tools to streamline dealer operations.
Motility did not name the perpetrators, but said they stole full names, postal addresses, e -mail addresses, phone numbers, birth dates, social security number (SSN) and driver’s license numbers. In total, 766,670 people were affected, but at the time of the press there was no indication that the information was used in nature.
Usually, cyber criminals use this data for identity theft, financial fraud, phishing attacks and creation of fake accounts. It also allows them to participate in social engineering, fiscal refund and unauthorized access to sensitive services such as healthcare or state benefits. They can also just sell it on the dark web to the highest bidder.
Fortunately, motility had a functioning backup that allowed it to restore its services pretty quickly. To mitigate the threat, the dark net surveillance, committed advice and other data security providers and now offer affected people offer a year’s value of free identity theft -protection services.
