Unidentified gunmen opened fire against Jaffar Express, who traveled from Quetta to Peshawar, injured the driver and caused panic among passengers.
The attack took place on Monday morning as the train went through Gudalaar and the Piru Koneri areas.
According to Express News, The Gunmen forced the train to stop in the mountainous area of Mach, where passengers were reportedly taken hostage. Eyewitnesses and sources of taxes indicated that firing continued in the area when the train was stopped.
The railway police confirmed the incident and stated that the train was stopped and about 500 passengers were on board. There are unconfirmed reports of more injuries among passengers, but the situation is still under investigation.
The PROFFICER for Railway DS confirmed that emergency protocols have been activated in nearby hospitals and ambulances have been sent from SIBI.
Security forces have reportedly surrounded the area around Mach mountains, which is known for its difficult terrain. Authorities have deployed additional convoys to help with the operation.
Sources also indicated that explosives may have been used to damage the railroad tracks before the slider began and the driver was among the severely wounded. The gunmen have reportedly continued to shoot sporadically with continuous efforts to free the hostages and secure passengers.
Balochistan has recently witnessed an uptick in militant attacks.
No group has assumed responsibility for the assault on Jaffer Express.
