News Flash! Smartphone -Design becomes more homogeneous with every year that goes. By 2021, the three largest flagship phones – namely the iPhone 13 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and Google Pixel 6 Pro – were recognizably different devices apart, but by 2025 their respective successors look more similar than their producers would care to admit.
Of course, the iPhone 16 Pro Max, Samsung Galaxy S25 is Ultra and Google Pixel 9 Pro far from identical devices’ camera schemes First, are still relatively different-but they share several ordinary (dare I say Apple-like) Design themes that have left behind The flagship smartphone category feels a bit … Samey.
Flat metal sides, gently rounded corners and clean, industrial coloring are the new norm for today’s flagship smartphones, with practical and underrated style apparently prioritized rather than “Look at my new phone!” personality. Of course, you can still stand out from the crowd with one of the best collapsible phones or best Android phones from China, but especially in the US it feels like your options for pampering with a bit of self-expression through your choice of smartphone is narrowed to practically zero.
But is this such a bad thing? Call me a robot, but personally I am all for the stable slide against a simple, optimal phone design (and I explain why in a follow -up article). But what about you? As multiple flagship phones hit shelves in 2025, we want to measure your opinions on the sticky topic with smartphone design.
So you think we’ve reached a maximum smartphone design? Or could manufacturers do more to differentiate their highest end units apart? Are modern flagships simply too boring? Or are you a fan of their shared industrial aesthetics?

It goes without saying, but there are obviously more nuanced attitudes to this question that are not easily summarized in voting format. For example, you may like the modern design approach, but think there is still room for further innovation. Alternatively, you can be nostalgic for the crazy smartphones from old (aren’t we all?), But acknowledge that these devices are meeting another market.
The four above options are meant to cover four broad feelings (‘happy’, ‘not happy’, ‘not happy but I understand why’ and ‘disagree’), which will hopefully give us an idea of how consumers feel About the state of the flagship smartphone -design in 2025.
