Rhys Thomas has a steady experience getting a hit on Saturday Night Live. But when the offer came from Marvel for HawkeyeHis reaction was not unexpected.
When he performed at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, he said, “Hi, see, we are all ******, right?” “You get an opportunity for a bigger budget and it’s wonder.”
The director continued, “What interested me in that show was that fans were not interested in Hawkeye because he has no superpowers. He is a real guy.”
“The cartoon they highlighted to me as a tone reference was of the Matt fraction, and it was grounded in that kind of energy that this is a real guy who was in pain and [who was] beaten up. “
“He made a mistake. It really was the story of an ordinary guy with a bad feeling of self -value,” he noted.
Rhys also remembered his reaction to the idea when it was beaten to him, and originally called the series did not “feel like Marvel” for him.
He explained, “There were no time limits, so I had to look at [the outlines] And send my thoughts and some ideas. “
“It was about three or four months in the early pandemic that I threw the show to Kevin Feige and the team, and then of course it was wonder I got on board and they threw out completely, they had before and we started writing the show again.”
