Lakki Marwat:
In a targeted terrorist act, the leader of a local peace committee and two of his companions were shot on Sunday in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwas Lakki Marwat district, police confirmed.
Ghulam Dastagir, locally known as Fauji and leader of Shahab Khel Peace Committee, was on its way to Qabol Khel area when gunmen complied with his vehicle in the Kara Wanda region. His companions, Saleem Khan and Salahuddin, were also killed on the spot.
Shortly after the incident, security forces launched a search operation in the surrounding area to understand attackers and prevent further violence.
The targeted murder comes as a continuation of rising militant activity in Lakki Marwat, where members of the Peace Committee, who are tasked with supporting local law enforcement and withstanding terrorist influence, have increasingly been attacked.
This is not the first time the peace committee officials have been targeted in KP. In April alone, two deadly attacks occurred against these groups, one of which took place in Lakki Marwat.
On April 29, members of a local Peace Committee were involved in a tough piston fight with suspected terrorists in the Begukhel area, after the assailants allegedly killed an elderly man and wounded his relatives.
Earlier, on April 26, a powerful explosion tore through a peace committee office in South Waziristan, which killed at least seven people and wounded 16 others. The blasting was widely condemned as yet another attempt to destabilize the efforts of society -based security.
