Heavy rain disturbs the power supply

The sixth magic form of the ongoing monsoon season brought an hour of storming rain to Lahore on Saturday, flooding streets and disturbing the city’s power supply.

Mixed affected more than 120 feed by Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco), leaving several neighborhoods without electricity for hours. According to Lesco, power interruptions were caused by feeder outlet and other technical errors.

The affected areas included Township, Green Town, Samanabad, Gulhan Ravi, Qila Gujjar Singh, Shahdara, Imamia Colony, Shalimar, Baghbanpura, Harbanspura, Garhi Shahu, Mughalpura and Bhati Gate, as well as several parts of the ballet.

Complaints about transformer damage also increased, which led to long -term power cuts in some neighborhoods.

Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) reported that 65 millimeters of rain were registered at Pani Wala Talab between 7 p.m. 13.35 and 14.35, which flooded low -lying areas. Gulberg and Lakshmi Chowk received 58 mm, Nishtar Town and Chowk Nakhuda 57mm, Farukhabad 70mm, Guldhan Ravi 19mm, Iqbal Town 39mm, Samanabad 37mm, Johaar Town 34mm and Qurtaba Chowk 23mm.

The heaviest rainfall during the day was registered at Pani Wala Talab of 77 mm, followed by Lakshmi Chowk of 74 mm. Upper shopping center received 7 mm of rainfall.

Rainwater accumulated on major transmission roads, including Mall Road, Jail Road, Canal Road and at Cross such as Lakshmi Chowk, Davis Road, Empress Road and Haji Camp.

Model Town, Kot Lakhpat, Peco Road, Township, Green Town, Factory Area, Muslim Town and Garden Town also experienced Waterlogging.

The rainfall forced postponement of independence day Family Fun Race scheduled for the evening at Nishtar Park Sports Complex. Organizers quoted water accumulation on the room as the ground.

Pakistan Meteorological Department announced that a seasonal low will persist across the northern Balochistan, with damp currents from the Arab Sea reaching the upper parts of the country. A fresh western trough also affects the northern areas.

Hot and humid conditions are expected to continue throughout most of the country on Sunday, with rain, wind and thunderstorms, which are probably in northeastern Punjab, Potohar region, Islamabad, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and nearby hilly areas.

Over the past 24 hours, hot and humid weather in most regions with isolated rainfall reported in parts of Punjab.

Lahore Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza inspected drainage operations in Chowburji and reviewed WASA’s response to monsoon rain.

He instructed WASA teams to speed up water removal from low-lying areas while securing minimal disturbance for the residents.

He instructed all departments to remain in high alarm and maintain close coordination to prevent the accumulation of water, especially in vulnerable places.

Public advisers were also issued, who encouraged citizens to avoid unnecessary journeys under heavy rain, remain free of electric poles and hanging wires and driving gently in waterproof streets.

DC said timely interventions and a comprehensive strategy to permanently tackle water accumulation helped the administration maintain a smoother traffic stream and safer public spaces during the ongoing Monsun season.

Deputy Commissioner also inspected anti-endgue operations in Raiwind and praised the health department to reduce larvae through uniform fieldwork. He ordered spraying in affected homes and nearby houses with strict daily monitoring of high-risk sites.

DC warned against negligence and emphasized the administration’s obligation to provide a dengue-free environment in Lahore.
