Heavy rainfall tilts Islamabad, over 145 mm of rain registered

Islamabad:

Torrential rain abused Islamabad, causing flooding of cities, harmful homes and immersed a vehicle as authorities emitted high alarms in both the capital and the nearby rawal pindi in the midst of rising water levels in larger nullahs.

According to the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi, Saidpur Village received 145 mm of rainfall within 3.5 hours, triggering flash flooding in seasonal streams. Water floated over bridge levels in several areas while a car was swept away by the flow. The vehicle has since been picked up.

In Saidpur, a wall collapse caused due to rainfall damage to nearby homes. Streets and homes were flooded, leaving the residents stranded and struggling to navigate through water -filled lanes.

MET Office clarified that the situation did not qualify as a cloudburst. “Saidpur registered 124 mm of rain in 2.5 hours, while Golra saw 46 mm. A cloud of scene is when rainfall exceeds 100 mm in one hour,” the official said.

In neighboring Rawalpindi, the water level in Nullah Leh also increased sharply. WASA has declared a rain emergency and released a red alarm. At Katarian Bridge, the water level reached 14 meters, while in Gawalmandi it rose to 6.5 feet. Emergency teams have been mobilized to manage the situation.

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has predicted further heavy rain in the next 12 hours, warning of up to 50 mm in the Pothohar region.

Islamabad -Vice Commissioner visited the affected area and instructed officials to intensify the operations against intervention. “Illegal constructions hinder the natural flow of water in the nullahs,” he said, conducting immediate approval.

DC Irfan Nawaz Memon ordered all assistant commissioners to inspect low -lying areas of their jurisdictions and take immediate steps to mitigate potential risks.

Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration said that monitoring seasonal streams and nullahs is ongoing to prevent flooding or city floods. Special teams have been inserted to ensure smooth water flow, especially in flooded zones.

The authorities have called on citizens to adopt precautionary measures under the wet spell. Residents of vulnerable areas have been asked to stay aware and avoid unnecessary journeys. DC also called on the public to immediately report emergencies or blocked drains for quick response.

MEAWNHILE, PROVINCIAL DISASTER MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY (PDMA) has predicted a fourth monsoon tricking form of Punjab.

This magic form is expected to be stronger than the previous ones, bringing thunderstorms, wind and rain to several regions, including rawalpindi, Murree, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and parts of the southern Punjab.

PDMA has issued a warning of the risk of heavy rain and flooding from 20 to 25 July and urges local authorities to remain vigilant.

River levels in Ravi, Jhelum, Sutlej and Chenab are expected to rise, while mid -level floods have already been reported in the river Indus.

In order to control the potential influence, provincial agencies such as WASA, LWMC and local municipalities have mobilized emergency measures to deal with flood risks, and the authorities have enforced section 144 around rivers and streams to ensure public security.

Other parts of the country, including Kashmir, Upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Northeast Punjab, Pothohar region, Gilgit-Baltistan, Northeast and Southern Balochistan and Southern Sindh, are expected to experience rain, wind and Thundershowers for the next two hours.
