Peshawar:
Peshawar High Court (PHC) has suspended the imposition and recovery of the newly introduced tax on all industries that generate electricity through gas-driven generators.
A division bench consisting of Justice Syed Arshad Ali and Justice Qazi Jawad issued the withholding order on Wednesday.
The federal government had introduced the tax through an ordinance published in January 2025, which required all captivity producers to pay a tax determined by the federal government.
However, the cement and textile industry, which was among the captured power producers, challenged the regulation in the PHC and requested the court to limit the federal government from notifying Levy Rate.
The notice was subsequently issued on March 7, 2025, which set the tax to RS791 per year. MMBTU. A formal application was moved to suspension of the message.
