- Lenovo Legion Go 2 is leaked in China with prototype units allegedly available to buy on used platforms
- The prototype seen in a bilibili -Video does not use AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme
- There is still no confirmation of a release date or whatever the completed version of the handheld will be
It’s been a while since we’ve had some updates about Lenovo’s release plans or schedule for its next handheld game -PC, since its message and short showcase on CES 2025. Now there’s another twist in history, but not in the way you might expect.
As reported by Videocardz, Lenovo Legion GO 2 prototype is leaked in China and devices are rumored to be available for purchasing on a used platform, prior to its official release. In a bilibili video, it already has a short demolition and showcase – and it is worth noting that the devices appear to be missing AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor.
Instead, it is allegedly using the Ryzen Z2 processor or at least the widely used (even older) Ryzen Z1 Extreme. This is not surprising as Lenovo has technically confirmed that there will be other configurations of Legion Go 2 as it said “the prototype contains the new AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme Processor”.
What is quite strange is the lack of transparency from Lenovo. Legion Go 2 is scheduled for a launch sometime in 2025, and it seems that it may be around September, based on launch rumors for Mexico, but we still haven’t seen the device beyond its prototype, despite being launching soon.
However, there are some very encouraging news as the handheld will use an OLED Puresight Touch Display, and from what appears in the Bilibili video, it is a sight to see combined with 8.8-inch screen size. Although it is likely to cost about $ 1,000, I think the OLED screen can almost justify it as it puts it against competitors like the steam covered OLED.
Analysis: I am still not willing to pay $ 1,000 for a handheld game -PC but a slightly lower price for Legion Go 2 may be eligible
No matter how powerful these devices become like the best handheld games -PCs on the market, I always want it very difficult to recommend any of those that hit the $ 1,000 mark.
I’ve had the same thought about the new MSI Claw 8 AI+ and the new MSI Claw A8 – but if a device comes close to potentially justifying it, it’s Lenovo Legion Go 2.
Again, it’s still in prototype, so we don’t have the full picture of what it wants to do with launch, hardware and ergonomic. However, I am willing to bet that the highest configuration will cost $ 1,000 due to the addition of an OLED screen, combined with the improved performance using AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme.
Now I am sure I will not be the first to mention, where not appealing the price point sounds, but it may be the only handheld that sounds like that power be worth. I know that other handhelds using OLED screens and powerful processors are found, but there is no world where you would ever find me recommend a handheld game -PC that is over $ 1,500 (I look at you, onexplayer).
If Lenovo Legion goes 2 ends up being priced to or under MSI Claw 8 AI+’S $ 899 / £ 899 / AU $ 1,799 Price, it will immediately become a lighter recommendation, especially up against Steam Deck OLED or Nintendo Switch 2 – but again, it can still struggle to sell at a price that is not available.
