Karachi:
Inspector of Sindh Police Ghulam Nabi Memon has expressed deep concern about the public’s lack of help to the Szabist assistant in Iftikhar Ahmed following a tragic road accident in the Shrafi Goth area of Malir.
The incident caught on mobile phone videos that later circulated on social media showed the victim caught during a trailer and received no immediate help from spectators.
According to a statement from police spokesman Saed Saad Ali, IG Memon said that a valuable life could have been saved if the wounded professor received timely medical attention. “Helping victims of accident are not just a humanitarian act – it is a moral, legal and religious obligation for every citizen,” IG said.
He emphasized that excessive bleeding, critical injuries and unnecessary delays often result in deaths that could otherwise be prevented. “Don’t let fear of legal complications prevent you from helping,” he urged. “Saving a life is like saving all of humanity – this is not just a good act. It’s a belief.”
IG further stated that the remaining passive or silent in the light of such emergencies is unacceptable. “Every life matters. Step up and act – don’t be a quiet witness,” he said.
By ensuring full support from law enforcement and bourgeois agencies, he said that citizens who help the wounded are heroes and will be treated with respect and protection. “Police and civilian agencies cannot fulfill their responsibilities without the active support of the public,” he added. “Even a little effort can save a life – so take that step without hesitation.”
The statement comes after viral recordings showed professor to tilikhar Ahmed caught between the wheels of a trailer after an accident. The lack of immediate help triggered widespread indignation and received this public appeal from the province’s top cop.
