- The Live-Action movie adaptation of The Legend of Zelda has a release window
- Nintendo Today App users discovered the message on Friday 28 March
- Fans of the video game can expect to see a theater release in March 2027
Nintendo has officially announced when the live-action adaptation of The legend of Zelda Video game franchise is released in theaters.
Sony Pictures Entertainment, which co-produces the film with Nintendo, will premiere the film on March 26, 2027, according to a message in Nintendo Today, a new content app revealed under the Nintendo Direct.
This means that fans have a two-year-old waiting time in front of them to see what the film’s director Wes Ball who is known for Blockbusters as Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and Maze runner Trilogy, has cooked.
Ball is reportedly producing the film with Joe Hartwick Jr. under their production company called Oddball Entertainment with Shigeru Miyamoto – creating the game series with Takashi Tezuka – and the former founder of Marvel, Avi Arad.
Miyamoto said when the film adaptation was first announced back in 2023 that he had been working on a live-action adaptation of The legend of Zelda “For many years now with AVI Arad”.
“I have asked Avi-SAN to produce this movie with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo himself heavily involved in production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to watching it,” Miyamoto wrote in a post on X.
What do we know so far about The Legend of Zelda Film Adaptation?
Unfortunately, at the time of writing, there are not many details of what we can expect, with casting and plot that has not yet been revealed, but we can probably expect a princess called Zelda, an adventurous sword man called link and an evil villain called Ganondorf.
The legend of Zelda franchise, which has been since 1986, has seen more than 20 different video games released over the years, all with different history lines, so there are lots of different directions this could go in.
Many fans of the games (your truly included) understandably have mixed feelings of fear and excitement over how a live-action adaptation could look out, who could blame us with as many critical flops as Assassin’s Creed movie to go off.
Avi Avrad has at least a fantastic track record to make good productions like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, But then there’s too Borderlands Adaptation that we are not talking about …
Hopefully this does not end in the latter bucket, and the Live-Action Legend of Zelda movie is a hit, but we will have to wait and watch. Meanwhile, let’s all enjoy the latest iteration of the series, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of WisdomTo get our Zelda -Fix.
