“We are pleased that the Rio Rancho authorities took this case seriously and filed criminal charges,” Albuquerque said public schools in a statement via KAT-TV. “Incredible behavior like this must be met with quick consequences for sending the message that it is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

“A large majority of athletes, coaches and parents in schools in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho and throughout New Mexico adhere to good sports, and we are convinced that this unfortunate incident is a deviation.”

The Rio Rancho Police Department launched a study of the allegations after rumors swirled about the alleged incident on March 25 within the La Cueva High School community. Several La Cueva High School players may have been drinking from the allegedly contaminated watering can.

The entire Rio Rancho Junior Varsity Baseball team was suspended in the middle of the probe.

“We want to make it clear that the alleged behavior is abhorrent and does not represent the standards and values ​​expected for all students attending Rio Rancho Public Schools,” said Rio Rancho Public School’s temporary communications director Wyndham Kemsley in a statement to Rio Rancho Observer.

The incident took place between a player from Rio Rancho High School and the team from La Cueva High School.
