Historical No. 1 Seed Final Four Set after Auburn survives

Each team that entered the NCAA men in 2005 with a top seed plays in Final Four in San Antonio.

All four # 1 seeds in the bracket that make it a Final Four are a rarity. It has been 17 years since the first time it happened in the history of tournament. Coincidentally, San Antonio was also the host city when North Carolina, Kansas, UCLA and Memphis qualified for the semi -finals in 2008.

No. 1 Auburn survived against the second -seeded Michigan State Spartans in Atlanta on Sunday night to end the celebration for the top seeds for only the second time in March Madness.

Earlier on Sunday, No. 1 Houston Tennessee directed in Indianapolis to beat their ticket to the semi -finals. On Saturday, top seeded Florida held # 3 Texas Tech to move on to Final Four. Duke then took care of business against Alabama.

In the first ever All no. 1 seed edition of Final Four, Kansas defeated North Carolina, while Memphis eliminated UCLA in 2008. Darrell Arthur’s 20 points led Jayhawks, while Star Guard Mario Chalmers added 18 points to help lift Kansas to a 75-68 win over Memphis and secure the national title.

More than a year after the Tigers’ championship game appearance, the NCAA committee announced for violations that Memphis would be forced to leave his record 2007-08 due to violations of rules. Memphis was also placed at three-year probation. The penalty came from a study of Derrick Rose and his justification.

In what will be the matchup of a couple of SEC enemies, Florida and Auburn meet in the first of the two semi -final games. This game will be followed by Houston and Duke.

The winner of each of these competitions advances to the national championship game. The last four begins on April 5 at Alamodome in San Antonio.
