- Intel’s rumors of wandering the price of some older portable CPUs
- Raptor Lake Chips increases by 10%, we are told
- This may be even more pressure on portable manufacturers considering the recent ram price increases, all of which make notebooks more expensive
Laptop prices may rise in the near future, and this time the trouble may be related to Intel’s CPUs, according to new rumors.
As marked by Jukan on X, Digitimes reports that according to sources in the supply chain in Asia, Intel plans to increase the price of its raptor Lake processors for laptops with just over 10% in the 4th quarter of 2025.
Apparently, one of the main reasons for this raptor Lake walk is the “smooth performance of AI -PCs” -but with all this we have to remember that Digitimes is not always the most reliable source (although the site gets things right some of the time), and also translation problems around the article.
What happens, we are told is that new AI -PCs – Copilot+ laptops – do not sell as well as expected, and then demand for Lunar Lake (Intel CPUs with beef NPUs for these devices) have not been as strong as expected.
As a result, there has been more demand for older Raptor Lake Mobile Chips self this is three-year-old processors now and then Intel is struggling to meet these needs from notebook producers. Because of this, the company will ask more for these chips-like report notes: “Raptor Lake has been in short supply since the middle of the year and the supply remains tight.”
The Digitime Reporter contacted Intel about this screaming of price increases, but Team Blue said it would not comment at this time.
Thin supply of Raptor Lake Chips remains a “major concern” for notebook producers, and one of the top five suppliers “experiences significant supply shortages” the report further claims without naming this manufacturer.
Analysis: Gloom Friday
OK, before we go overboard with pessimism, we need to take this only report with an appropriate intense dose of spice. In addition, it is obvious that Raptor Lake Chips is not the whole portable market-there are many other Intel CPUs around and of course AMD-powered notebooks.
Still, Raptor Lake is still a popular choice for traditional notebooks -which does not mean -AI -PCs -and some of the best game -laptops too, so if this price increase is really real, the problem is that it is another pressure on portable producers. Do not forget that these suppliers also face rising RAM prices in the 4th quarter and also upward movement with SSD pricing -an unfortunate trio of key components that can add an ugly headache when trying to price their products.
As the Digitime Report points out, this is a difficult situation for PC manufacturers who are now trying to plan for Black Friday -Sales -tempting prices will be difficult to come up with the component market forces currently pushing the cost of portable producers.
It is also interesting to see the report’s observation that AI -PCs do not shoot at all cylinders that analysts had expected now – and that sales remain lukewarm, where consumers are not tempted by these units (or actually businesses to some extent). It makes sense – I know I’m not very drawn to buy a copilot+ PC, and although I wouldn’t rule out the idea, I certainly wouldn’t want to pay a prize for such a device. Obviously, it is that the exclusive AI features offered by Copilot+ machines can be moderately compelling in a few cases, but they are mostly cropping that I am not excessive.
All of that said, analyst companies and some Notebook manufacturers are singing another tune on AI PC sales Self-self a lot of the driving force is still focused on how successful these devices will be in the future.
In fact, Windows 10’s life end – which happens next month – can help shoot AI PC sales a little more as it will mean that a good number of new Windows 11 devices will be purchased to replace Windows 10 PCs. As the report observes, however, it is likely to bend the business market, but not necessarily consumers – and do not forget, people can now sign up for an extra year of support for Windows 10 for free.
Right now, there is an air of concern about weak PC sales in general, which is exacerbated for fear that with rising component costs, Black Friday offers on laptops may not be as convincing as usual -and so that notebook producers can fight to take advantage of this normally flowering time for sales.
