Horses Racing: Aqueduct Racetrack Canceling Map of Noise

The New York Racing Association (NYRA) said it was forced to cancel Sunday’s entire racing card at Aqueduct Racetrack about what it called “unacceptable noise levels” from a nearby autos show at a casino.

Resorts World New York is right next to the aqueduct. Nyra said the plant held its march Madness Auto and Bike Show.

“The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) has canceled Sunday’s eight-race card at Aqueduct Racetrack due to unacceptable noise levels created by ‘March Madness Auto and Bike Show’, an event held at the nearby Resorts World Casino,” Nyra said.

“Nyra was not informed in advance that the event would create potentially unsafe racing conditions. Despite Nyra’s repeated attempts to correct the situation, Resorts World Casino was unable to make the necessary adjustments to allow racing to continue.”

Nyra should have eight races to go off. Running continues on Thursday, the organization said.

Andrew Offerman, Nyras Senior Vice President of Racing and Operations, said the casino’s event took place in a parking lot “immediately next to the top of the stretch”, according to the New York Post.

“We were then confronted with wildly unpredictable sound levels and other worries that cause potentially uncertain circumstances for horses and riders,” the Offerman added. “We were not left with any choice other than canceling racing because of these concerns.

Aqueduct Racetrack said Racing will resume Thursday.

“Nyra will work with (New Thorough Boat Horseman’s Association) and (New York State Gaming Commission) to determine appropriate next step and how we can pose these lost racing opportunities for our participants.”
