The Pakistani military has announced that it captured and neutralized more than two dozen Indian drones that crossed the border since last night.
With a press conference on Thursday morning, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director-General LT Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that the abandoned Indian aircraft included sophisticated ‘Harop Drones’, a loitating ammunition system developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).
The Army’s top spokesman also showed a number of images under the press mark that showed waste from the drones. The locations where the drones were captured include Karachi and Lahore, indicating a considerable depth of the intrusion.
However, he assured the nation that the armed forces were in high attention and actively engaged in neutralizing additional threats.
According to the IAI site, Harop Drone is a double capacity system that can hover over a battlefield and strike targets after the command.
It is especially known for its ability to target the enemy’s air defense and other critical assets. This type of drone blurs the lines between a traditionally unmanned air vehicle (UAV) and a missile that possesses self -driving flight capacities and the possibility of autonomous or manual operations.
If a goal is not engaged, Harop may return to the base and country. Its design allows for launch from land -based cans or air platforms.
Harop Drone has a documented history of use in conflicts, especially by Azerbaijan against Armenia in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in both 2016 and 2020.
It was allegedly used in attacks resulting in damage and destruction of military vehicles. In addition, the drone has reportedly been deployed in the Syrian conflict with allegations of successful strikes against Syrian air defense and armed forces.
There are also suggestions that Turkiye may have been an early adopter of the system.
