Wonder Man is the latest superhero entry in Marvel Phase 6’s lineup and will feature a metatextual world where we get to see the main character, aspiring Hollywood actor Simon Williams, settle on a lead role in a superhero movie in the universe, “Wonder Man”.
Interestingly, our Wonder Man has some hidden powers of his own, which makes him suitable for the role in more ways than the film’s creators would like. How Simon navigates his rise to Hollywood fame, keeping his powers hidden until he couldn’t, and his dynamic with Trevor Slattery – played by series regular Ben Kingsley – forms the show’s main plotline.
Interestingly, the trailer keeps a lot of things close to its chest. For example, it doesn’t reveal the villain Wonder Man will fight, the extent of his powers, and most importantly, his origins. As we have come to expect from other Marvel superhero shows like Moon Knightthe origin story of the superhero’s powers forms one of the main plot lines, especially in season 1. So it will be interesting to see how much of that we get to witness in Wonder Man.
