Peshawar:
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has issued a condemnation of the decision from a Swabi Jirga to expel all trans -fun people from the district. It has noted that such constitutional acts constitute incentive to violence against a marginalized society.
The HRCP issued the statement on Sunday after reports appeared in the media that an 11-member committee for the elders had declared that all trans-fun people would be expelled from Swabi.
In a statement issued on X, HRCP said no citizen can be deprived of the right to stay, work or earn a livelihood everywhere in Pakistan on the basis of gender identity.
It called on the provincial and district authorities to “immediately ensure the security and dignity of transient persons in Swabi and to maintain their fundamental rights under the Constitution and the transient persons (protection of rights) law 2018”.
The committee for the elders concerned included the Tehsil president of Jui-F Maulana Abdul Samad Haqqani and others. Samad said they wanted transking people to leave the district peacefully and serve their livelihood elsewhere. “As long as they live here, music shows will [continue to] be arranged and adversely affect the youth, ”he said reportedly.
Another committee member, Yasir Khan, said in the first phase, transcends would be asked to leave the district peacefully, and if that does not happen, the district police would be contacted.
Committee members also said they would probably meet for the next few days, and would also separate a meeting with the district police to discuss a strategy to “expel” transgender people.
