- Disney has announced that Hulu is going globally
- Hulu replaces Star in the Disney+ app, a change that will roll out internationally from October 8
- It follows a period of backlash from subscribers who recently canceled subscriptions and called the platform’s price increases
If you were worried that Hulu could disappear as part of the new ‘Unified’ Disney+ – app coming in 2026, fear not – if anything, it’s getting even bigger.
After the August message that Hulu and Disney+ would be integrated into a single app in 2026, Walt Disney Company has revealed plans to take the Hulu platform Global instead of getting rid of it.
From October 8, Hulu will be the “Global General Entertainment Tag” on Disney+. It replaces Star, an in-app hub that offers non-American subscribers entertainment from other platforms owned by Disney.
When the integration between the two services was originally announced, Disney, CEO Bob Iger Hulu Star in the Disney+, stated that “it will replace the Star tile on Disney+ International” and that the change would be with “Several improvements within the Disney+ app”. These changes are now upon us.
Although this step means an increase in hulus international exposure, Disney+ has even reviewed Wringer recently. It has lost a significant amount of subscribers and triggered frustration over its latest price increases, which apply to both individual plans and bundles of agreements with Hulu and HBO Max.
Not only does Hulu get a designated place in the Disney+ ecosystem, it also gets a list of new design upgrades for your home screen, starting with a new navigation line.
At the top of the website you will find a new navigation bar with four tabs where ‘for you’ is the first thing you want to see when you launch the Disney+ app. Depending on your subscription plan, there will also be tabs for Disney+, Hulu and ESPN, making it easier to explore each platform libraries. Disney also adds new roof bikets such as “Season Final”, “New Series” and “New Film” to identify timely content.

What else is new?
There will also be new visual elements that come to the website that Disney describes as “more modern and intuitive”. You will find a new video display in the carousel that highlights new releases from each brand, as well as new poster art on content sets – but Disney also upgrades its iOS experience.

Widgets have become quite popular since the roll -out of new customization settings in iOS 26, and soon Disney+ launches its own to “add another front door to take users directly into our programming with a single click”.
The streaming platform has also teased exclusive mobile exclusive experiences set to arrive in the coming year, which Disney hopes will help engage new target groups.
