Spoilers follow for the end of Chad Powers season 1.
If you enjoyed Chad Powers season 1 i bring good news. Hulu (and Disney+ internationally) has renewed the Glen Powell-led sports comedy, so you can breathe a sigh of relief after to cliffhanger.
The first season introduced us to Russ Holliday, a disgraced football player who gets a second chance by going undercover as Chad Powers. In the finale, however, Chad’s true identity is revealed, but not to everyone.
This revelation sets the course for future episodes. Powell told The Hollywood Reporter that there is a lot more of Russ/Chad’s story to explore and that it was planned early on.
“The reality is there’s a lot more story to tell,” he said. “There was a construction early on for an arc of what the catfish would look like. So we have a beginning, middle and end in mind.”
“But people have to tune in and show us they want to see it. We believe in this show. I believe we have a hit show here and one that the world is really going to love. If we get the privilege of doing a second season, we have some fun things in mind.”
What could we see in Chad Powers season 2?
Look at
Now that Chad Powers has been revamped, there is an opportunity to delve deeper into his character and his struggles to keep up appearances. After all, protecting one’s true identity from being revealed is number one.
But when you’re in the spotlight, that’s no easy task, and series creator Michael Waldron told TechRadar: “The point we’re making. [with the series] is that it will only get more difficult from here and that it will not be easy to do this and take it all the way’.
He added that the show has a lot to do with identity and self-acceptance, saying, “I keep finding myself interested in these people who seem like lions and are in really difficult situations and have to struggle with their identity and figure out who they really are.”
I’d certainly be interested to see how Russ might fare if his deception is exposed by more people. Is it possible for him to redeem himself or would that mean he would never play again?
I’m patiently waiting for season 2 to come out to see just how big this web of lies can get, and of course I expect some more laugh out loud moments as well.
