Karachi:

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has emphasized that the Hyderabad-Sukkur motorway is not only important to Sindh, but has a strategic impact on Pakistan’s overall trade and connection.

He pointed out that the Karachi harbor is the central hub of the country’s imports and exports, and that there is no more appropriate route than Hyderabad-Sukkur motorway to facilitate this movement.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Memon emphasized that Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has repeatedly reminded the federal government of the urgent of this project, even sent official letters.

“Recently, federal ministers gave assurance that funds for the project would be included in the upcoming budget,” he said.

However, MEMON clarified that the construction of the Hyderabad-Sukkur motorway is the responsibility of the federal government, not the Sindh government.

“We were told that this project would soon start and be completed quickly. But with the amount allotted, the project cannot begin immediately, nor can it end on time,” he added.

To call the allocation simply “token money,” Memon said that the budgeted amount is completely inadequate for a project on such scale.

“Large infrastructure projects of this kind require full financing, not symbolic allocations,” he said. “These are typically multi-year projects that require at least 30-40% of the total budget in the first year-old other national projects receive.”

He criticized the federal government for only awarding RS15 billion RS and said it does not reflect justice to the project or the seriousness of national development.

“This allocation does not serve Pakistan’s interests,” he claimed.

Sharjeel Memon also expressed serious reservations about the budgetary allocations to the K-IV water supply project, stating that the funds that were earmarked were very inadequate.
