Strict action is planned against airstrikes, street stunts as over 1,200 officers are deployed across the city
HYDERABAD:
Authorities in Hyderabad have finalized elaborate security arrangements ahead of New Year celebrations to prevent incidents of aerial firing, street fights and reckless motorcycle stunts. Over 1,200 police officers have been deployed across the city, focusing on key intersections and major streets, while physical barriers such as barbed wire will secure critical areas.
SSP Hyderabad Adil Hussain Chandio said anyone involved in aerial firing will be charged with attempted murder under strict legal action. Special surveillance measures including walk-through gates, metal detectors and CCTV cameras have been set up at churches, religious places, commercial hubs and sensitive locations.
YOU Hyderabad Region Tariq Razaq Dharejo directed all SSPs to ensure foolproof security, maintain law and order and deploy plainclothes officers to monitor troublemakers. Citizens have also been urged to celebrate responsibly and avoid illegal activities.
Unlike previous years, authorities have decided not to close markets and shops early, but major roads and intersections will be cordoned off to prevent chaos. Last year, similar celebrations led to nine injuries due to aerial firing and fireworks.
