- Nothing OS 4.0 has been revealed and will soon enter open beta
- This update includes Android 16 along with many changes and new features
- When we look ahead, nothing detailed its vision for hyper-personalized operating systems
Nothing has just revealed its next operating system update, called Nothing OS 4.0, which the company will roll out next to Android 16.
It’s not quite ready to go yet, but an open beta will be launched soon and nothing has detailed what to expect from this update.
Highlights include an updated design that Nothing Phone 3 Maker claims is more fluid and intuitive, plus a new additional dark state, support for two fluid app icons to speed up multitasking, appoptimations to make them run faster and smoother and an upgraded photography experience, with new camera control and creative supporters.
Nothing OS 4.0 also has a new dashboard aimed at making AI behavior more transparent, so you can stay in better control of your data when using AI, and there are general improvements to the operating system’s responsiveness and stability.
Look at
A hyper-personalized future
So there is a great deal here, but nothing has even more exciting things planned for future operating system updates. In a blog post, the company has detailed its vision for an operating system that is “hyper-personalized to each individual” with interfaces that will adapt to your context and needs, suggestions that will surface naturally, and AI agents that will perform most tasks for you.
But since everyone needs different things, nothing says “A billion different operating systems will be reproduced to a billion different people,” and these personalized operating systems will follow you across devices as well as your phones, the same operating system can be used on laptops, sound products and several future looking things like smart glasses and humanoid robots.
Nothing thinks it is uniquely placed to create this future operating system because it owns its last kilometer distribution point-it is the hub from which goods are sent to reach the customer. This, says the company, gives them significant contextual and user knowledge.
That said, it sounds like this hyper-personalized operating system may still be far away, so for now you just have to keep an eye on nothing OS 4.0.
