- Microsoft’s Windows 11 24H2 update continues to affect PC users with new Bluetooth and webcam issues
- Windows cannot detect the webcam and has problems with audio playback on Bluetooth audio devices
- The latest KB5050009 (24H2) and KB5050021 (23H2) builds appear to be responsible
It’s no secret that Microsoft’s Windows 11 24H2 has been a massive problem for many PC users, with bugs and functionality issues across the board affecting gamers of late – and now it looks like a new set problems have arrived to create more frustrations.
As reported by Windows Latestthe latest 24H2 KB5050009 build leaves users with webcams not being detected and Bluetooth audio devices no longer working even when connected to a system. I can confirm this last point as Windows 11 shows bluetooth audio devices as connected but without sound, leaving headphones and more useless for now.
Windows Latest claims say this audio issue occurs on both KB5050009 (24H2) and KB5050021 (23H2), along with USB DAC ports not working with the latter.
The only fix for the Bluetooth issue (as of now) is to uninstall the latest update, while the webcam issues reportedly require a reinstall of Windows 11. Considering the effort required for both supposed fixes, it might be better to wait , that Microsoft fixes the issue with a patch – but who knows if it won’t also introduce new problems.
The main problem here is that it can be difficult to diagnose some of the reported problems – there are a plethora of different PC setups, with different programs installed, which can be responsible for some errors. In this case, it appears that it is indeed a widespread problem (especially with webcams), with users of Microsoft’s Feedback Hub voicing their complaints.
Alright, time to stick with SteamOS via Bazzite for now…
If Windows 11 24H2’s update breaking several games wasn’t already bad enough, the Bluetooth issues have taken matters to a new level of frustration. As I primarily use Windows 11 for gaming, this has affected me – and audio playback on Bluetooth devices is not the only problem I’ve encountered, as the taskbar and quick settings both become unresponsive (even after pressing the Windows key) , forcing me to reboot the system.
This isn’t ideal for gaming or even general use, especially when combined with random slowdowns and the stuttering in multiple games – Ubisoft’s hand was forced to update its Assassin’s Creed games that faced constant crashes. Dealing with PC ports and figuring out what could be the reason behind the occasional stutter and more is already a pain, and 24H2 has added to this.
Until these issues are resolved, I feel I need a different OS to run my games on. Since Bazzite (and Valve’s SteamOS) is far more suitable for use on a handheld gaming PC, I’d be wary of installing it on a desktop PC – and I’ve only tested Bazzite on the Asus ROG Ally, but if that means I need to use my handheld over my powerful desktop while Microsoft puts these issues to bed, so be it.
