- Miele has launched the Guard L1 Comfort XL -Cylindervakuum
- Have a companion -App, LDC screen and automatic floor detection
- Available now in the UK and Ireland, RRP £ 499
Miele has launched a new cylinder wacuum that boasts a variety of advanced features for a more efficient and low-effort cleaning routine. The L1 Comfort XL Vacuum has wi-fi integration, a companion app and automatic floor detection-all features that appear on today’s best wireless stick vacuum, but (so far), nowhere else.
The LCD screen – which you would find on one of the best dyson vacuum on the market – provides a useful way to communicate information in a moment. It tells you what percentage full dust bag is, so you don’t have to worry about overfilling it and can make sure you’re ready with spare parts before you need them. It also tells you when the exhaust filter should be replaced and give warning messages – for example, if there is a block that needs attention.
You can also access this information via a companion app. I’m not sure if you bowl Let the accompanying app downloaded to use this machine effectively, but I hope not.
Another useful feature that is ported in (rather late) from wireless stick -vacuum is automatically suction adjustment. The Miele Guard L1 can tell what kind of floor it is on and change the suction level in response. So it will ramp up to pull dust from deep inside your carpet fibers, but fall to a lower power condition for hard floors where the dust is right on the surface.
Even if you don’t have to worry about preserving battery (which you might be on a wireless vacuum) is a win when it comes to not wasting power, and also ensuring an effective clean with minimal effort. If you want to manually change suction, you can do so via a switch on the handle instead of having to return to can.
Each data point that the app and LCD screen shows focuses on highlighting common problems that cause a loss of suction power, both immediately and which can cause long-term problems during the life of the vacuum.

“The Miele Guard L1 vacuum cleaner is designed to make your cleaning routine smarter and more efficient,” Dan Young, Floorcare manager at Miele GB, told Techradar. “Each data point that the app and LCD screen shows focuses on highlighting common problems that cause a loss of suction power, both immediately and which can cause long-term benefit problems during the life of the vacuum.”
Miele Guard L1 Comfort XL-Cylinder Vacuum is now available in the UK and Ireland for a RRP of £ 499. It is one of several new ‘guard L1’ vacuum, but unfortunately it seems that it is only the range-comfort XL that comes with the screen, the app connection and automatic suction. Miele has a presence in both the US and Australia, but no news yet about whether the new model will do it over there.
Why the wait?
Lawless, bagless stick -vakuum remains the floor cleaner You JourAnd I can see why. It is certainly convenient not to have to dodge cables and connect and reintroduce sockets as you walk around your cleaning routine. But there are disadvantages to this style of vacuum. Vertical vacuum or cylinder vacuum almost always has more suction power and lasts much longer in general.
Bags are a minor hassle, but also have their advantages. One of my regular vacuum cleaner cleansers swears by posing vacuum, and there are benefits for allergy sickness because there is less chance of dust and other particles to flee back into the air when sucked up.
In short, these alternative vacuum types are not a dusty (word game calculated) relic of a swunen time and there is no reason why Stick Vacuum should get all attention. Miele is known as a more traditional premium brand, and I am glad to see that it has finally stepped up to the record to deliver a cylinder vacuum in modern times.
