- Openai introduces shopping features to all levels of chatgpt
- You can integrate shopping into your chatbot conversations
- The shopping features arrive on Monday
Chatgpt gets new shopping features that allow you to shop and buy products directly inside Chatgpt conversations.
The usual online shopping experience leaves much to be desired. You usually have more tabs open when you search for and then compare different products based on a selection of reviews.
Maybe that’s how you like it, but now you can get chatgpt to do all work for you and help you find the perfect product.
So instead of rolling through endless pages of specifications and reviews, you can just have a conversation with chatgpt where you let it know what you want to buy.
AI will think of your preferences and return multiple purchasing suggestions that you can choose from.
You also don’t have to take the first thing that Chatgpt finds for you as it produces a gallery with suggestions. Of course, you can also ask follow -up questions and compare products while having a conversation with AI.
You can see a demo of chatgpt shopping in action below:

Shop until you fall
So what kind of products would you be able to shop on chatgpt?
“We are starting to experiment with categories, including fashion, beauty, home goods and electronics,” says Openai, indicating that it is very focused on consumer goods right now.
The other big question to ask is, can you trust chatgpt -recommendations?
Well, Openai says chatgpt -recommendations are selected independently and are not ads. In fact, there is no mention of ads at all inside the service.
Openai gives the tacit admission that there will not be such a wide selection of products to shop for what it would like at launch, but also that this is still early days for AI and E -trade and that “we continue to bring merchants along our travels when we quickly learn and iterate.”
How does it work?
Using the new shopping features is simplicity in itself. There are no additional screens or buttons to press into Chatgpt, you just enter a shopping -related query as “Find me the best espresso machine for under $ 400 that makes coffee as they have in Italy,” and see what suggestions it brings up.
Product suggestions appear as a gallery that can be rolled sideways. Pressing a product leads you to a more detailed pop-up window about what also contains a ‘buy’ button.
The only question that is left, when do we get it? Plus, pro and free users get it Monday (May 5), and unusual, even logged users will be able to access it.
