- Spotify celebrates 10 years of discovery weekly by rolling two new big upgrades
- Together with a fresh design -renewal, Discover has weekly playlists now genre -control features
- The new upgrades have started to roll out
Spotify’s Discover Weekly Playlist was the first feature of the platform of Personalized Music Discovery, and it has just got two brand new upgrades to Premium subscribers to celebrate his 10th anniversary-inclusive a much-needed genre filter feature.
Since 2015, Discover Weekly has been one of Music Streaming Service’s most used features for new music discovery, and has been Spotify’s landmark that paved the way for features such as Daylists and AI DJ.
With weekly updates that show you a number of new songs and artists, Spotify has described it as ‘Playlist that makes Mondays something to look forward to’. While Discover Weekly has never been my go-to feature, there is no one to deny that it has changed the game with new music discovery on Spotify, and its new upgrade makes it even more a personal experience.
New look, new genre filters
For starters, Discover Weekly has got a new visual upgrade that stands out from other playlists in your made for you hub, such as your release radar. In addition to the playlist’s weekly updates, its graphics will also be updated every Monday, giving you a new look every time – but this is not the only exciting upgrade.
Before Spotify rolled out in Discover Weekly, Spotify sub-genre filter features, offline backup playlist and new releases Hub. Discover Weekly gets the same treatment.
In the new upgrade, you can now use new control features at the top of your Discover Weekly Playlist, so you can search through up to five different genres based on your listening story. Based on which genre you choose, this generates a 30-track gaming list to bring you one step closer to your next favorite song or artist.
As mentioned, Discover Weekly is not one of these features in Spotify that has been able to lure me – I don’t think I’ve used it since it was first launched 10 years ago.
But one of my favorite additions to Spotify is the sub-genre control feature that I constantly use in other playlists and nodes, and now that it has found a new home in Discover Weekly, I have to do something to consider.
How to find Discover Weekly

Before you dive into your recently upgraded Discover Weekly Playlist, make sure you have the latest version of the Spotify app installed. If you do, you’re free to dive right in.
Go to the search node in the Spotify app and roll from there a little down and press your made for you hub. When you are inside, roll down again until you see the section entitled Discover New Music, which shows your release radar and discovers weekly playlists. Tap Discover Weekly and start your journey for new music discovery.
