IAEA Laud Pakistan’s role in peaceful nuclear programs

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has recognized Pakistan’s constructive contribution to the peaceful use of atomic energy and famous its constant progress in civil nuclear technology, Radio Pakistan reported on Saturday.

Recognition came during a meeting between IAEA general Director Rafael Mariano Grossi and chairman of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar, held on the sidelines of the 69th IAEA’s general conference in Vienna, Austria.

In a statement shared on social media after the meeting, the IAEA chief Pakistan’s cooperation with the agency and noted noted that the country’s nuclear power program was steadily going on.

Grossi also highlighted the recent commissioning of Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit-5 (C-5) as an important milestone of Pakistan in its efforts to improve pure and sustainable energy production.

In a remembering his visit to Pakistan earlier this year, Grossi described the first concrete that poured in a new nuclear place in February 2025 as a “larger milestone” in Pakistan’s push for pure and sustainable energy.

The two officials also reviewed ongoing areas of collaboration under Key IAEA initiatives, including atoms4food program-as using nuclear technology to increase the crops, improve food safety and manage pest control and rays in hope aimed at improving access to nuclear medicine and radiation therapy for cancer care.

Grossi appreciated Pakistan’s proactive engagement with the Agency, especially in training, capacity building and use of nuclear knowledge for socio -economic development. He noted that Pakistan remains an appreciated partner in promoting the peaceful use of nuclear science and technology.

Confirmed Pakistan’s commitment to international nuclear security standards, Dr. Anwar, said all nuclear power plants in the country operate under the highest security protocols.

He reiterated that Pakistan’s nuclear activities were in line with IAEA’s vision and expressed the country’s intention to continue working closely with the Agency and its Member States in promoting peaceful nuclear cooperation and regional development.
