We are through another week and boy, this was a big one in the wild technology world.
Of course, this week’s big event was Meta Connect 2025, where we were introduced to three new smart glasses. We also saw the arrival of a new DJI drone and we reviewed Apple’s latest technology.
Scroll down to catch up with all seven of the best stories from the last week.
7. A lesser known audio brand impressed us
Budget Audio Specialist Soundpeats has just announced a new pair of affordable earplugs that are much higher in spec and design class than most of its releases.
Despite costing only $ 129 (they are being launched globally, but no prices have yet been announced), they pack in a Triple-Driver System Plus Hybrid Active noise reduction and Snapdragon sound, APTX-free and LDAC higher resolution. These have a fancier special list than AirPods Pro 3 in many ways.
The design is also a really eye-catching with a gold-accented look and chunkier design than some rivals that look more like something you would expect from advanced earphones than a few budget wireless buds.
This is a declaration of intent from an earmaker that has improved quickly over time, and Soundpeats H3 delivers really advanced features at a middle -class price. They are definitely one to see – our full review is coming soon.
6. Amazon set a launch date for its new echoes and Kindle
If you’ve been thinking about buying a new Echo Smart speaker or Kindle-E reader, we’ll suggest lasting for ten days. Amazon told us this week that it hosts a big hardware event on September 30, and we expect to see new launches in both of these categories, among others.
Our in-depth dissection of Amazon’s teaser image (check the link below) concluded that a new Echo studio speaker, Color Kindle, Echo Bud earbuds and four TVs are the most likely arrival. But there will probably be an even bigger horde of new gadgets designed to work with its new Alexa+ Voice Assistant, so it’s definitely a date for your tech diary.
5. DJI Mini 5 Pro started
With its new drone, DJI redefined what mini-drones can do, thanks to its class leading 1-inch sensor plus good flight features that are somehow pressed into a 249.9 g body to fly below the limitations imposed on bulkers flyers.
In fact, it is so impressive that our camera editor wonders whether DJI has created a problem for himself because he is wondering if anyone wants any of its other consumer drones.
To make things even better, the drone is a very good value for money. Standard DJI Mini 5 Pro Bundle comes in at only £ 679 / AU $ 1,119 (US pricing and availability TBC), which seems almost ridiculous for the function kit you get.
4. We fell in love with iPhone 17
We reviewed the latest Apple Gadgets, and of the iPhone 17 we said it “feels like the best standard iPhone in years, with Apple bringing long wise pro features such as promotion and always to a more affordable model.”
Our tester also loved the new A19 chip, the larger screen size, upgraded cameras and the new iOS 26 that the device can trust.
All of these positive things to say are why we think the iPhone 17 is the one that most people have to buy, especially as you get twice as much storage at the same price as last year.
3. IOS 26 brings a large rework
In the run-up for the launch day for iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air, Apple has released iOS 26, the largest iPhone software update this year. The update of the iPhone experience in some unexpected – even controversial – even controversial – ways to start with iPados 26 and MacOS Tahoe 26.
IOS 26 brings updates to photos and messages, new customizations, useful new power settings and a fully redesigned user interface based on Apple’s virtual liquid glass material. It has been redesigned – which unites Apple’s UI aesthetics across iOS, iPados, MacOS and Watchos – that have had the biggest reactions so far, with some users confirming their love for the new look and others reporting eye loading and related problems.
As for new features, Apple has reworked some staples of apps. The camera app has been redesigned with a simpler look, the photos app is getting new tabs and collection management, and Apple Intelligence gets improvements to visual intelligence and live translation.
Unfortunately, we missed the new Quest -Headset VR -hardware this year at Connect, but Meta did not completely ignore VR.
James Cameron, the world -famous filmmaker, came on stage to hype up Quest’s performance as a home entertainment machine and almost spoiled the future of Meta’s hardware. We also saw updates to Horizon Studio and Horizon Engine, which should be very convenient for VR World creators.
We also saw the debut of Horizon TV, which will serve as a one-stop hub in the quest head-headset for video content and herald the arrival of Disney+ to Quest after its Apple Vision Pro Exclusivity.
The star of Meta Connect was Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses that have a full color screen for the first time from meta-specifications. This screen can help you with navigation, translation and even make video calls, though Meta’s Live Demo did not go as planned …
It also gave us Gen 2 Ray-Ban Meta glasses (without display) and also Oakley Meta Vanguard-specifications-a smart visor aimed at bringing useful tools for athletes, such as Garmin connection to hands-free fitness updates, and automatic recording of your milestones as every mile of a marathon.
