It’s been another busy week in the tech world – though next week, with Amazon Prime Day and Samsung Galaxy unpacking, promise to be even bigger.
But it’s all still a few days away, so what happened this week? Well, we were researching a band that could be completely AI-generated, tested two new units and controlled our anchor Power Banks to see if they should be remembered.
To catch up on all this and more, roll down our round-up of the seven biggest tech stories about the last seven days.
And once you are up to speed, remember to read our guide to the 7 new movies and TV shows to watch this weekend (July 4).
7. We examined Velvet Sundown Mystery
It was always only a matter of time before AI-generated music had its first big breakthrough, so we were not surprised at all when Velvet Sundown crashed Spotify and Apple Music Party this week.
This ‘band’ has collected a staggering 860,000+ monthly Spotify listeners despite (supposedly) not even existing – or do they?
Velvet Sundown’s profile picture certainly seems to be an AI-generated image and the band’s music, which is a mixture of wistful lyrics and mild psychedelic rock, certainly sounds like that could is created by AI.
Deezer even went so far as to mark it as AI-generated, but Spotify and Apply had not followed at the time of writing, many people left wondering why the bigger streaming services did not do the same.
To add a VRI to the story, it seems to be rival spokespersons for the band, each claiming to represent them and each give quotes to the media. Maybe one day we know the true story behind velvet sunset but until then they remain Dust on the wind.
6. Anker remembered several power banks

If you own an Anchor Power Bank, it may be wise to control his model number-this week, the Chinese tech giant remembered no less than five models due to a potential fire risk with their lithium-ion batteries. This followed the recall of another model, Powercore 1000 (A1263), in early June, with the new warning including models from its Maggo and Zolo Ranges.
Some of the recalls only affect units made between specific dates, and Anker has only issued a ‘voluntary revocation’ message. But it is still worth checking as you could be due to a free replacement or a gift card.
To find out, check out our guide below, which includes links to all the recall forms and information you need.
5. Xbox -hardware was declared ‘dead’

Former Microsoft Game Studios performing producer Laura Fryer blasted Xbox in a video sent to its YouTube channel and argued that the brand’s hardware is effectively “dead”. This comes at the back of the reveal of ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X last month, as she suggests, is a sign of Microsoft’s reluctance to create her own new hardware in the future.
It’s “much easier to turn an Xbox sticker on an existing piece of hardware and call it one day,” she said. “From my perspective, it seems that Xbox has no desire or literally can’t send hardware anymore.”
Fryer also drawn attention to some of the broader problems that plagued the brand, such as a lack of convincing exclusive experiences. The long -term development cycles of upcoming titles such as State of decay 3 (which was originally announced more than five years ago), Fableand that side distanceed Perfectly dark Remake, she warned, risk leaving consumers without a compelling reason to consider future Xbox systems.
4. Dyson launched a powerful new airwrap

Dyson Airwrap is already considered Best Multi-Tyler you can buy and the next gene version looks even better.
Dyson Airwrap Co-Aanda 2x is smaller and lighter, but more powerful than its predecessor, so you can style for long periods without needing cannons like Arnie. Dyson has also added attachment memory-so the dryer recognizes which adhesion is cut on, and then automatically switch to your latter-out settings.
Perhaps the most exciting thing is a new AirSmooth2X tool designed to create straight styles. Styles squeeze your hair between two plates and blast it with directed air to level it, like a mini dyson air tire.

2. We tried nothing’s first ever headphones ever

Nothing launched its first over-ear headphones headphone (1)-and we had some beautiful mixed feelings around them. And I’m not even talking about the design that has proven to be divisive in the Techradar office and online.
They are packed with features, all of which work excellently, from strong customizable noise cancellation, to main tracking to spatial sound, to a really cool bass amplifier feature and a large EM. The app is also really easy to use, and the build quality and physical control – which includes a good scroll button that we absolutely love – is excellent. The life of the battery is also above average.
However, we stumble over the sound. They don’t sound bad at all is very well-balanced-but they had some tough limits compared to the competition at the same price, and for $ 299 / £ 299 we expected more.
1. We held nothing ‘first real flagship’

Nothing is “First True Flagship”, Nothing Phone 3, was finally revealed to the world this week, and our first reaction to the completely Bonkers-looking unity was one of both surprise and respect.
“It’s an Outlandish creation with specifications to compete with some of the best phones and I think it could be the most interesting flagship launch of the year,” wrote telephone editor Axel Metz in his practical preview of Nothing Phone 3.
The new new feature is Glyph Matrix: A small DOT-Matrix screen sitting in the upper right corner of the phone 3’s back panel. A Glyph interface reimagining from previous Nothing phones, it is capable of displaying personal-specific messages, monochromatic ‘Glyph Toys’ (read: party games) and other useful features.
Then there is the Snapdragon 8S GEN 4 chipset, the Triple-Lens 50MP camera setup and the 5,150mAh silicon carbon battery, all of which should help the phone 3 compete against the best Android phones on the market.
It is available to pre -order now from nothing directly for $ 799 / £ 799 / AU $ 1,509, with open sales to begin globally on July 15. We are currently putting the new unit through its pace, so stay tuned to our full review in the coming weeks.
