Rawalpindi:
Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has decided to discontinue the collection of electricity bill payments through Pakistan Post from July 1st.
In a letter sent to Pakistan Post headquarters, the company stated that the move is aiming to digitize the manual collection system and prevent losses in cash collections.
Pakistan Post Sources expressed surprise at this sudden unilateral decision, confirming that post offices continue to provide services for electricity, gas, telephone and WASA BILL collections despite significant financial losses.
They said its continuation is too public convenience and to maintain the dignity of the national institution. Public confidence in post offices, especially in rural areas, is evident from statistics that show that in the last financial year there were over 42.8 million electricity companies collected at post offices, including 10 million bills for IESCO. Similar figures also appear for the current financial year.
It has been learned that although IESCO and all other electricity companies and supply providers already have alternative proposed facilities available, most of the public is still dependent on Pakistan Post.
