The Islamabad High Court has reduced the death sentences of two convicts in the Osama Satti murder case to life imprisonment, while acquitting three others.

The court announced its verdict on appeals filed by the five convicts.

Justices Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan presided over the bench that issued the decision.

Convicts Iftikhar Ahmed and Muhammad Mustafa had their death sentences commuted to life sentences, while Saeed Ahmed, Shakeel Ahmed and Mudassir Mukhtar were acquitted of all charges.

The case involved the fatal shooting of Osama Satti, a young man killed by police officers. Earlier, the convicted officers had challenged their convictions, leading to the high court’s revised order.

On January 2, 2021, around 02:00, Osama had gone to drop off his friend in Sector H-11. When he returned, the policemen had intercepted his vehicle in Sector G-10, Srinagar Highway and fired at him from all sides.

Police claimed they had tried to stop a suspicious vehicle with tinted windows and opened fire when the driver did not stop.

The incident spread like wildfire on the microblogging site as microbloggers lashed out at ‘police brutality’ and ‘fake encounter’.
