Islamabad High Court (IHC) has sought a response from the government over Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s lawyer’s proposal to hand over DR Shakeel Afridi to the United States in return for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.
IHC judge Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan heard a petition searching Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s release from the US prison. During the consultation, Clive Smith, lawyer for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, a new statement in court.
He suggested that Dr. Aafia was swapped with Dr. Shakeel Afridi.
The court requested the government’s response over the proposal until February 21
The IHC judge noted that the letter written by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to former US President Joe Biden remained unanswered. He asked what initiative was taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in this regard.
The Foreign Office Representative informed the Court that the Ministry of Interior Further Secretary held a meeting with preliminary US envoy. The court ordered the government to answer every single question in the statement and postponed the hearing until February 21.
