Islamabad High Court (IHC) has maintained Capital Development Authority (CDA) from intervening at wedding halls and markings in the city.

Justice Inam Amin Minhas issued a written order during a hearing on a petition filed by Ghulam Moinul Haq Gilani.

The court has ordered all parties involved to present para-wise comments within 15 days and ordered that no punishing act be taken until the next consultation.

According to the petitioner’s lawyer, CDA had issued directives on August 16, 2023, which is said to have a negative impact on the fund’s fundamental rights due to changes in relevant legislation.

The case has been postponed until May 21 for further procedures.

Previously, over 360 guests were affected by food poisoning at a wedding reception in Johar Town, Lahore, with more than 200 inlaid and several reported in critical condition.

The incident took place at a private Marquee in Satto Katla, booked by Sarfraz, resident of Khayaban-e-amin, for his wedding ceremony.

According to the first reports, guests began to experience symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and severe abdominal pain shortly after the meal was served.

Emergency Services responded immediately, and several ambulances transported the victims to different hospitals throughout Lahore.

It was reported that nine patients were in critical condition at General Hospital Lahore. Other affected guests were treated at Raiwind Indus Hospital (27 patients), University of Lahore Hospital (7), Kasur DHQ Hospital (over 10) and hospitals in Narowal (31).

Sarfraz accused Marquee management of serving unhygienic and substandard food. In response, food security officials collected food tests for testing and local authorities launched a study. A FIR was registered and officials promised strict action if negligence was confirmed.
