- IKEA has six distinctive new products for your smart home
- They are made in collaboration with the Swedish designer Teklan
- There are three speakers, two speaker lamps and a lamp
IKEA has some new smart home devices to show off, made in collaboration with Teklan (Swedish designer Tekla Evelina Severin): We have three candidates for our best Bluetooth speaker list and three lamps – two with built-in speakers.
All these gadgets have bold patterns and colors which is something Teklan is known for. They are quite distinctive in their appearance, and IKEA says the range “puts expression first” and is designed to “connect technology with personal style”.
The three Bluetooth speakers are part of the SOLSKYDD family of products and come in three sizes: a small, 8-inch portable orange model ($79.99), a medium 11-inch green, brown and beige model ($99.99), and a large 18-inch orange model ($139.99) that can be paired with a monitor. The first image in the gallery below shows how the different sizes compare.
The largest is for wall mounting, but the other two can be wall mounted or placed on a stand. IKEA has yet to reveal international pricing, but we’ll update this story when we get it.
All of these speakers can be connected to each other, as well as existing IKEA Bluetooth speakers if you want a multi-speaker setup. They also support Spotify Tap, so you can resume your music listening with a single press of a button.
Also new lamps
Then we have the two speaker lamps, called KULGLASS. These are probably my favorite products of the new batch, doing double duty as both a source of lighting and something to pump your tunes (or podcasts or audiobooks) out of.
The swirly shades are apparently inspired by soft-serve ice cream – another reason I like them – and you can choose between a black model with a pale green hue or a red model with a pinkish hue.
For now, there’s finally a “spotted interpretation” of the existing FADO lamp, which IKEA says is designed to spread a soft glow around the room you put it in. The light shines through a cream and brown coating, and it has a vaguely futuristic feel – whereas the current FADO lamp just has a simple white coating.
IKEA says all of these products will go on sale in December, and we’ll add the international pricing to this story as soon as we get it.
