Rawalpindi:
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has called on Chief Justice of Pakistan, Yahya Afridi, to maintain the rule of law, Imran’s sister Aleema Khan told journalists after meeting PTI founder at Rawalpindis Adiala prison Monday.
“Imran Khan has asked Chief Justice to decide if he wants to maintain the rule of law,” said Aleema, adding that her brother says he will “face his cases in the courts of the same judges and that he will not beat A Secret Deal [to get any relief]”
Imran Khan, who has been jailed since August 2023, wrote a letter to Chief Justice Yahya Afridi as well as head of the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court, Justice Aminuddin Khan, on January 30.
In the 349-page letter, the former Prime Minister addressed questions related to human rights violations, alleged election fraud and arrests of PTI workers, especially around November 26, 2024.
Imran Khan declared that between 24 and 27 November last year a large number of PTI workers were arrested. He also claimed that the hospital’s items were sealed and later changed to manipulate facts about a government’s crash on a PTI rally.
He criticized the judiciary for not giving justice despite repeated petitions against electoral fraud and ongoing human rights violations in the last 18 months.
Later, the PTI founder also sent two letters to the army chief, General Syed Asim Munir.
When we spoke with reference to letters, Aleema Khan quoted Imran as saying they should not be interpreted as an attempt to enter into an agreement with the establishment.
“He said letters to the army chief were not for an agreement, but to convey a message when the gap between the military and the public was expanded.
“He said the nation and the army should unite against terrorism. The PTI founder also declared that he would write another letter next week,” she said.
