Rawal Pindi: Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan spends his third consecutive eid Ul Fitr inside Adiala Prison, where strict security measures prevented him from offering Eid prayers.
Khan, who faces charges ranging from leaking state secrets to selling state gifts, is involved in 100 cases and has been jailed since August 2023.
While Eid beans were held in the central mosque in prison, Khan was unable to participate due to security concerns. His wife, Bushra Bibi, who is also imprisoned, remained in his cell during the prayers.
Other inmates, prisoners during trial and prison officials participated in the congregation.
To ensure security around the high profiled prison, a special three-day security plan has been implemented.
According to sources, eight additional security checkpoints have been set up on roads leading to Adiala prison, with almost 200 officers and staff deployed. Security staff will perform tasks in three shifts under the supervision of SP Saddar Nabeel Khokhar.
Authorities have strengthened security to address any protests from PTI supporters outside the prison. A reserve force has also been deployed, while police staff are equipped with antiriot equipment.
Meanwhile, PTI founder Khan before Eid Ul Fitr was delivered to Rawalpindis Adiala prison. According to sources, the items sent to the PTI base include four new clothes for Eid, a pair of shoes and a vest.
