India has blocked offcial social media accounts for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan’s military media wing.
ISPR had released videos that claimed Indian commitment to false flag operations, which reportedly got traction among Indian audiences before being taken down.
“This is not just censorship. It is a political targeting against a superb leader of a sovereign country,” a senior media advisor told Reuters.
In a parallel, Pakistan has strongly criticized India’s decision to block the official YouTube channel for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and called the move an “extreme and undemocratic” attempt to suppress free expression in the midst of escalating tensions between the two countries.
Clampdown is also expanded to sports and entertainment. Pakistan Super League -Franchise Lahore Qalandars said the Indian authorities have blocked its Facebook and Instagram pages for users in India, which further tightens digital limitations.
The Qalandars, one of PSL’s most popular franchises, reported over 264 million global views on its content. No official explanation was given to the block.
Previously, India Suspended live streaming of PSL matches via the local platform fancode and removed combat heights.
The Foreign Office in Islamabad said it may raise the issue of digital ban with international rights organizations and platform providers who felt India’s recent actions a violation of global standards of freedom of expression.
Despite the limitations, Pakistani officials noted that blocked content continues to circulate on alternative platforms.
