Indo-Pak War will be ‘recipe for mutual destruction’: DG ISPR

Karachi:

The Pakistani military spokesman has warned that any serious escalation between the two nuclear armed neighbors could have disastrous consequences.

“The world now recognizes the extent of the nuclear threat. Any sensible player, like the United States, understands this absurdity and what the Indians are trying to do here,” said DG Ispr LT Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry in an interview with Sky News on Thursday. “If India thinks it can cut a space for war between India and Pakistan, it’s actually a recipe for carving mutual destruction,” he added.

The military spokesman warned New Delhi of a “quick and insured response” if it violated the ceasefire with Pakistan. Any serious escalation between the nuclear armed neighbors would lead to mutual destruction, he added.

The warning came when a troubled ceasefire holds between the two rivals in the midst of merciless verbal dueling over military hostilities triggered by a deadly rampage in the Pahagam area of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) that killed 26 tourists. India accused Pakistan of the assault – a claim denied by Islamabad.

The dispute over the Himalayan region has angled the relationship between the two neighbors since their beginning in 1947, but India’s unilateral decision in August 2019 to strip the disputed region of its autonomy had effectively ended the normality that existed in their bilateral conditions.

LT Gen Chaudhry accused India of trying to “internalize” the Kashmir question and “harass” the region’s predominantly Muslim population. “This (Kashmir) is a problem that needs to be solved by the people of Kashmir in accordance with the United Nations Security Council resolutions,” he added.
