A 31-year-old woman died and 18 others remain in critical condition following a seeming side effect on an injection at Mayo Hospital in Lahore, officials said Monday.

The incident took place in the hospital’s hand on breast surgery, which received immediate intervention from medical authorities.

Dr. Ehtesham, the hospital’s medical superintendent, confirmed the mortality rate and announced that the use of the suspected injection had been suspended.

A high -level selection, led by Dr. Haroon Hamid, has been formed to investigate the matter.

The Punjab government has noticed the case in which chief minister Maryam Nawaz promised to tackle systemic issues in public health care.

The incident comes days after CM Maryam Nawaz ordered the removal of the medical superintendent (MS) at Mayo Hospital, after a surprise visit where she found widespread wrong management and poor patient care.

During the visit, patients and their companions filed several complaints about the medicine’s inaccessibility, poor hygiene conditions and lack of medical facilities.

CM went through various departments and engaged directly with patients to hear their complaints.

In one case, a young girl shared tearfully how she spent the night driving between pharmacies to buy medicine for her ailing mother.

The main minister, visibly moved by the account, assured the girl that an immediate action would be taken.

“The people come here with hope, but no one is there to help them. Those responsible for this negligence will be held responsible, ”she said.

Patients in the cardiology department complained about the presence of insects, while others reported a lack of syringes, canes and other essential supplies.

CM instructed the hospital staff to carry out a comprehensive warehouse control and ensure the immediate delivery of medical supplies.
