Insta360 has just announced Go Ultra, its most advanced miniature action camera yet. With a new sensor and treatment chip on board, Go Ultra promises to surpass all other small action comb on the market when it comes to image quality – including Insta360’s own Go 3s released just last year.
Until now, the Insta360 GO 3S has been our favorite miniature action camera – and possibly the most fun camera available. Its minuscule size and weight allow it to enter stains other cameras – even other action cameras – simply can’t go, and it was the first model in the GO series that was able to capture 4K video.
It’s a tough camera to hit, so how does the new Go Ultra top it? We have completed an in-depth Insta360 Go Ultra Review and gone through Spec Sheets with a fine tooth comb to see where the differences are-and determine why you might want to exchange your Go 3s to a go ultra. Or not …
1. Video and photo quality

The largest gleaching comes on the image quality front, with GO Ultra Toting a new 1/1.28-inch sensor-it is an astonishing 221% larger than the GO 3S’s 1/2.3-inch sensor.
The paired with a 5NM AI-chip (also new) allows this GO Ultra the opportunity to offer 4K up to 60 fps (the GO 3s topped at 30FPS), as well as special modes and pure video for low light shooting and active HDR (both require the image frequency to fall to 30fps or below). Ultra also supports more effective H.265 video cooding, while the 3s only support H.264.
There is also good news for photographers: GO Ultra can shoot ever higher resolution of photos with a maximum resolution of 8,192 x 6,144 pixels as opposed to the GO 3S 4,000 x 2,250 pixels.
2. Sound quality

Go Ultra UPS also the specifications of the audio recording front with its built-in MICs that support 48 kHz / 32-bit AAC audio. GO 3S’s maximum sound quality is 48 kHz / 24-bit AAC.
It is also worth noting that GO Ultra will support a direct connection to the new Insta360 MIC Air Wireless Microphone. GO 3S does not currently support it, although we assume that compatibility could be added via a future update.
3. Size and weight

There is an important area where the new camera does not beat the GO 3s. Due to its larger sensor that requires more space, the GO Ultra -Standalone camera is weighing 1.87 OZ / 53G and measures 1.8 x 1.8 x 0.7in / 46 x 45.7 x 18.3 mm. The GO 3s are lighter and smaller: 1.38 OZ / 39G and 1.0 x 2.1 x 1.0in / 25.6 x 54.4 x 24.8 mm.
For a camera where the small size and weight is a large selling point, the slight increase in bulk may well expose some people. I’m not saying that GO Ultra is big or heavy (it’s very small for a 4K 60fps camera), just that it’s not as brilliant small as its predecessor.
4. Battery life

On paper, GO wins Ultra this round. Its time -free camera has a 500mAh battery offering up to 70 minutes of recording of runtime, while its action -pod battery has 1,450 mAh capacity offering a total of 200 minutes of run -out.
It is much better than the respective 310mAH / 38-minute recording time and 1,270mAh / 140-minute run-time of the Go 3S and its action pod.
5. Storage

There is a clear difference in the two camera’s approaches to storage. GO 3S is only available with built -in storage and buyers get a choice between 64 GB and 128 GB versions. However, GO Ultra’s slightly larger design means it has room for a MicroSD card castle, so even though there is no built-in space, it can be equipped with as much as 2TB storage space.
It could come very useful if you traveled, for example, as it could mean that you do not have to delete or relieve footage so regularly.
6. Price

It’s new and it’s shiny, so the Insta360 Go Ultra, of course, costs more than the Insta360 Go 3S. Go Ultra Standard Bundle (which has the camera, the action pod, a magnetic pendant, a quick release security line and a magnetic clip) costs $ 449.99 / £ 389 / AU $ 759, and its bundle creates bundle (all of the above plus a mini-trip, Quick-Release Mount and a Pivot Stand) cost $ 4999 / £ 429 / AU 839.
The Insta360 GO 3S has recently been reduced with its standard bundle (which has a 64 GB GO 3S camera and action pod, lens guard, magnetic pendant, pivot stand and light clip), which now costs $ 319.99 / £ 279.99 / AU $ 719. That’s a great price for a 4K action camera that is just over a year old.
So there you have it – the most important differences between the new Insta360 Go Ultra and its predecessor The Go 3s. What do you think? Does Go Ultra’s larger size revise from its appeal, or are the extra video features enough to convince you to change?
