- Insta360 has released a new teaser for a launch event on April 22
- It has the tagline “all day, all night, all angles” and suggests a new 360 camera
- Latest leaks suggest that it is preparing to start insta360 x5
The Insta360 has long topped our guide to the best 360 cameras – and a new teaser suggests that it is preparing to launch a new flagship model. Fortunately, some recent leaks have also given us an idea of what to expect, with a sequel to last year’s Insta360 X4 looks very likely.
The X4 was first launched a year ago in April 2024, but a promo picture for Insta360’s event on April 22 suggests it will be replaced next week. The image (below), which has the tagline “all day, all night, all angles”, shows the reflection of a camera very similar to an X4.
We have also recently seen some leaks pointing to the arrival of an Insta360 X5 on April 22. The reliable @quadro_Newshas placed two leaked images for an X5, and the 360 camera also seems to have been premature published in an ad in the Best Buy app.

So what can we expect from insta360 x5? The leaks so far do not give much away, except to suggest a mild redesign of the pill -shaped camera and potentially a larger battery to increase recording times.
The Insta360’s teaser video is also easy on details that mainly focus on some of the impressive creative video effects that are the characteristics of the series. Our Insta360 X4 review also gave the current model Five Stars, which suggested that there is little room for improvement.

But with Insta360 who wants to expand his lead over GoPro (which still has not launched his GoPro Max 2) and DJI, which is tilted to launch a DJI Osmo 360 camera this year, there are certainly some new features that could push into his flagship camera.
So here are five things we would like to see from the rumored insta360 x5 …
Insta360 x5: What I would like to see
1. Better performance with low light
Like most 360 cameras, one of the insta360 x4’s biggest weaknesses is low light. It’s still a lot of a camera of the day, but the Insta360s teaser-with-tagline “all day, all night, all angles”-its new model could improve this.
Low -light weakness comes from a combination of sensor size and treatment. Our X4 Review noted that although low-light images look “pretty clean” after being treated with Insta360’s mobile and desktop editors, they were also “a little smudgy as a result of noise reduction”.
Hopefully, a combination of improved treatment and a larger sensor (see below) will make the rumor X5 a more versatile camera that can be used with security outside of light daylight.
2. Larger sensors
The challenge for 360 cameras is that they have to house two image sensors while remaining pocket and travel friendly. The Insta360 X4 combines two 1/2-inch sensors, which are decent but still something of a bottleneck of image quality-dermed with the inclusion of an HDR video setting to improve the details of highlights and shadows.
While I don’t expect the X5 to go as far as the Insta360 One RS 1-inch 360 edition and jump to a 1-inch sensor, it would be great to see it upgraded to 1/1.3-inch sensors (the same size as the ones we recently saw on Insta360 ACE Pro 2).
It would help improve dynamic range, low-light shooting and straight-out-of-camera image quality. It can also help the X5 match the incoming DJI Osmo 360, which has been rumored to go straight in with 1/1.3-inch sensors.
It sounds like a long-awaited competition in the 360-camera site could be good news for us …
3. Better heat drainage
While not a major problem in most recording conditions, we found that the X4 has a tendency to get hot-free in those that require high resolution video states.
The obvious way to prevent this is to avoid recording static, long-shaped 8K videos, but it would be good to watch the rumor X5 take a step forward in heat management.
This is less of a problem when absorbing action as there is some natural air flow to cool the camera in these scenarios – but a reduction in overheating during stationary recording would again create a more versatile 360 camera.
4. Interchangeable lenses
We do not have many concerns about the build quality of the Insta360 X4. Our review called it “excellent” in this department, and the camera is fully waterproof to 33ft / 10m, with all its gates rubber sealed and some practical color coding inside the catch, so you can quickly check that everything is locked.
But an upgrade that would be useful is user-replacement lenses. While it is possible to do this with a third -party set, it is certainly not straightforward and to send your camera in for repair is usually the best choice for deep scratches.
It would be good to see the rumor X5 offering something like Gopro’s swarmy lenses system. It can be difficult to achieve on a 360 camera, although hinted at the Insta360’s teaser video, where a worker smashes the camera with a hammer.
5. The same price tag
Insta360 x4 is not exactly cheap for $ 499 / £ 499 / AU $ 879, but it’s probably the most fun camera you can buy for that money. We also thought it was a reasonable price at the time of X4’s launch because it was only a 10% marking from X2 – a camera that was launched back in 2022.
Because Insta360 is based in China, there is a danger that the recent US tariffs can interfere with this pricing. But we hope that is not the case and that the X5 (if it is actually launched on April 22) will come in at a similar price as its predecessor outside the United States at least.
