- Instagram continues to expand what is possible in DMS
- You can now plan a message and easily translate one
- The bigger news fell from Jennie and Doechii as you can share music now
Sure, Instagram DMs may be best known as where you may be shooting your shot with someone or sending wheels to friends with common interests, but Meta wants them to be used as a core notice service. At least that’s what we think this pretty big extension to Instagram DMs is being rolled out now indicates.
Just days after debuting the opportunity to give another user a nickname that is timed for Valentine’s Day, Instagram rolls four major improvements to its DMs. Starting with the ability to plan a message that I was surprised by wasn’t already there. Instagram is now playing them up as iMessage – which only got this feature in iOS 18 – Messenger and WhatsApp.
Within Instagram, however, you can now write a message – emojier, gifs and all – and plan the one to be sent later for individual or group messages. You can plan one for up to 29 days in the future, which may prove to be fruitful if you need to be sure that an important message will be sent, as to a friend’s birthday or an anniversary with a loved one.
Furthermore, Instagram knows that its platform is global and that you might massage someone in another language. And rather than copying this message to another app or on the web for a translation, you can now translate a message into 99 different languages just within Instagram. You can do this by holding on to the message and selecting the translate option. This one could turn out to be pretty practical.
Next, we have all been there when group messages are busy – it can be a constant attack on new items to read, and other messages or the shared items can be lost in the mixture. Instagram has a solution, yes, at least one that can help, as you can now attach up to three messages to the top of a person or a group cat. So if you are planning a weekend trip with friends, you can get the important details up on top.
Given Instagram already integrates music into stories and allows you to share a lovely vinyl record that spins with art, it was only a matter of time before this feature arrived in messages. The result is that you can share your favorite tracks with your friends in a one-person or group message and listen to the track at the same time.
You also don’t have to navigate out to Apple Music or Spotify to find the track as you can search for your favorite songs right in line from a new pop-up menu. It looks like choosing a track to share about stories or as backing music for a roll. Instagram actually collaborated with Jennie and Doechii to reveal this feature.
All of this stacks up to make messages in DMS a little more trouble -free, but also to keep you more within Instagram rather than navigate to other apps. In addition, Instagram also now allows you to generate a QR code so that another user can easily participate in a group chat by just scanning it.
Tell us what your favorite feature of this Instagram DM drop is in the comments below, but in the meantime I will share some new music in a DM with my friends.
