- Intel has announced that its unison -app will be disconnected at the end of June
- This was an alternative to Windows 11’s phone link functionality
- It was better in some ways – especially for iOS users, and with the app was more streamlined – so it’s sad to see a viable alternative go
Intel’s acquisition of tying your phone in with your Windows 11 -PC – Unison app – closed, with Team Blue announcing that it will be interrupted for most users at the end of June 2025.
Windows latest reports that Intel announced the message in Microsoft Store listing to the app, saying that: “Intel Unison will soon be interrupted. The first step in his wind process is the final service for most platforms in late June 2025. Lenovo Aura platforms retain service through 2025.”
If you scrape your head and think “I have never heard of Intel Unison” you wouldn’t be alone there. In short, the Intel’s version of Windows 11’s built-in functionality is known as the Telephone Link app.
Both Telephone Link and Unison offer the opportunity to access iOS or Android smartphone feature on your Windows 11 -PC desktop. In case of Intel Unison, core ability is covered, such as responding to texts, seeing messages, making calls and file transfer operations, if you want to switch, says a photo from your phone to the PC for image editing purposes.
Like Window’s latest notes, the most important strength in Intel Unison is a better implementation on the iOS page (actually supporting the Apple smartphones from OFF when Microsoft’s tag on this formula not for some time). It is also a more streamlined app, and probably the desire of those who use it – review assessments for the Unison in the Microsoft store is currently higher than for Microsoft’s own solution.
In any case, if you are using Unisont, you will have to ditch the app soon, so you may see a phone link in a few months.
Windows latest has spoken with sources and claims that even though it is officially June 30 is the day unison will be interrupted, it can continue to work okay on some devices for some time afterwards – or at least some parts of the app can. Before long, however, it will be fully switched off, so you might as well start getting used to that idea now.
Analysis: Ignifification in progress
Intel Unison will have lasted for two years (almost) as the app becomes canned (Team Blue launched it back in August 2023). It will be a shame for some people to see it go, as there are reports that it works more smooth than phone link not only for iPhones, but also for Android devices -still going for some of the online feedback to the app. (I haven’t used it myself).
If this is the first time you hear about Intel Unison, it’s obviously a little late to learn about the app now. Although it is also not something I had heard of before, and Unisont somehow flew under my radar – and I guess that is part of the problem and the reason why it has been dropped. The second probable reason here is that, like Windows’s latest tip, it is probably part of Intel’s cost -saving measures, with Team Blue, which has to streamline its business considerably, as we saw with all the very unfortunate redundancies (and more) last year.
Compared to Intel Unison, the advantage of telephone link is that it offers more advanced functionality – especially for Samsung smartphones, of course, but for all phones more wide. And it includes the latest step to integrate telephone link directly into the start menu, put it in front of and in the middle of Windows 11 interface.
In short, telephone link is not going anywhere, and Microsoft is definitely going to strengthen what is moving forward – so it is not likely that Unison would have kept pace with this pace anyway. Still for those who would have a simple alternative, and a streamlined app that covered the basics – and in all accounts, covered them with some Aplomb – Intel’s app mounted the bill, but of course that won’t be the case much longer.
