Islamabad: In a significant breakthrough, one of the leading intelligence agencies has awarded a large terror plot aimed at launching a deadly attack on the strategically important PAF Masroor airbase in Karachi, revealed sources from the intelligence community.
According to officials, the complex plan was masterminded by a commander of the Afghanistan-based terrorist group Fitna Al-Khawarij (FAK), who leads the group’s notorious suicide group.
The action involved nine heavily trained terrorists and five were Afghan nationals-led by a high-profile FAK commander who already wanted in several terrorism cases.
The terrorists, who had recently infiltrated Pakistan from Afghanistan, aimed to violate the airline through a pre-identified point, seize control of the plant, destroy aircraft and infrastructure and keep the base as long as possible. Their goal was to inflict maximum damage and engage in a prolonged gun battle until death.
The operation was reportedly under direct supervision of FAK’s top management based in Afghanistan and involved almost thirteen months of planning. The terrorists had taken accommodation near the airline base and conducted extensive reconnaissance of the area.
However, the intelligence agency had closely monitored their movements. As the striker was launching the final phase of their plot, the agency launched a quick, hidden and coordinated operation and arrested the suspects from different places throughout the country.
The Agency’s action not only protected the strategic aircraft base, but also destroyed an important FAK Terroric Network involved in several previous attacks – including the attack in November 2024 in Chinese engineers at Liberty Textile Mills in Karachi’s site area.
The same FAK commander trapped in the current operation is believed to have masterminded this attack before fled to Afghanistan.
The authorities describe him as an IED expert, educated in Afghanistan and a former militant with the Afghan Taliban during their conflict with NATO and ISAF forces.
Preliminary investigations suggest the involvement of hostile intelligence agencies, which are allegedly financing and exhausting of terror elements in an attempt to destabilize Pakistan. Officials pointed to a similar terror plot foiled in October last year, where FAK and the hostile agencies had conspired to sabotage a major international event in Islamabad.
Despite such threats, Pakistan’s armed forces, intelligence services and law enforcement authorities remain steadfast in their mission to protect the nation. Officials confirmed their obligation to eradicate terrorism in all its forms and protect national security through coordinated, merciless vigilance.
